Be Gentle With Me! by PJ Gach

Let’s
face it; you’re really sweating now. Whether you’re having fun or
commuting, this heat makes your natural coolant system work overtime.
Dunking yourself in the shower will cool you off; if you’re using the
wrong shampoo and conditioner your hair will be as dry as the Sahara.
Plus the hair police will come and arrest you for hair torture (just
kidding), but it you’re not using the right products, you hair will
end up looking like a haystack. What to do? We here at EDGEBoston
scoured the shelves and found four companies whose products we love for
their efficacy, gentleness, scent, lather, and texture.
Max Green Alchemy
Max Green Alchemy
Scalp Rescue Shampoo (8.2 oz, $18.00) and Conditioner (8.2 oz, $18.00)
are gentle enough to use every day. Scalp Rescue is formulated to care
for dehydrated, oily, itchy, dry, and scaly scalps. If you have
psoriasis, dandruff, or seborrheic dermatitis and are fed up with
medicinal smelling potions, you’ll adore scalp rescue’s earthy green
scent. Both products have been approved by vegan.org. These products
are lanolin free, laurel/laureth/paraben free. Instead, they contain
certified organic ingredients, vitamins B5, E, Ester C, and herbs
including calendula, horsetail, lemon tea tree, tea tree oil, and
lavender. Our hair felt soft, luxurious, and healthy after one use.
Mario Russo
Boston native Mario Russo
has two local salons; 9 Newbury Street, 3rd floor, Boston and at Louis
Boston, 234 Berkley Street, Boston. He’s created a line of whimsically
packaged, olive oil based hair and body products that are sold
nationally. We adore his Sky- High Shampoo for fine hair (8 oz,
$18.50). Sky-High nourishes and imparts fullness and body to limp
locks; it contains grape seed extract, soy proteins, olive oil, and
fruit oils. His Hydrating Conditioner (8 oz, $18.50) contains aloe
vera, chamomile, and lavender oil. These very gentle ingredients
moisturize condition and gently love your hair.
Philip B.
Philip B.
understands what a fast paced life you lead. There’s never enough time
for anything. His newest product; Nordic Wood One Stop Hair & Body
Shampoo (12 oz, $35.00) gets you clean from top to bottom. Nordic wood
contains 6% pure Nordic plant extracts (Norwegian Spruce, Balsam Fir,
White Pine, Cedarwood, White Camphor), amino acids, colloidal oatmeal,
aloe and Oat kernels to cleanse, tone and moisturize you all over. It
really does smell like the Nordic Woods at night – deep and mysterious.
This double duty product is perfect for overnight trips; take this and
you’ll have room for more shoes. Try his Deep Conditioning Crème Rinse
(6 oz, $24.50). It’s packed with African shea butter, wheat proteins,
essential oils and soy proteins. While lightweight, it’s strong enough
to detangle, moisturize and imparts a healthy gloss on your tresses.
Robert Kree
You never know who (SJP for one) might be sitting in the chair next to you at the Robert Kree Salon,
375 Bleecker Street, in the heart of New York City’s Greenwich Village.
The salon, minimalist in design, exudes a Zen-like atmosphere. The
philosophy of “clean and simple” is incorporated into Kree’s signature
and extremely effective line of hair products. Products are housed in
navy blue bottles or tubs. Most of the products from shampoo to styling
aids have the same crisp, clean smell of the ocean mixed with juniper
berries. “Robert Kree Clean,” ($15.00) is a daily moisturizing shampoo
so gentle that it can also be used on color treated hair. Lot of lovely
vitamins feed your hair every time you lather up. “Robert Kree Moist,”
($16.00) contains vitamin e, c, and Panthenol his conditioner will
refresh and hydrate your hair without build up. It’s scented with mint
and citrus to wake you up in the A.M.
No
matter what type of hair or scalp condition you have, these gentle
shampoos and conditioners give you fantastic results all year long.
Max Green Alchemy can be purchased at health food stores and online at www.maxgreenalchemy.com. You can buy Mario Russo’s shampoos and conditioners at either salon in Boston or at www.mariorusso.com.
